Focus on what’s in front of you

The other day I drove from Harare to Marondera in the evening and I got so frustrated that I couldn’t see the whole road ahead. Even with my lights on flash I could only see just a few meters ahead of me. Not seeing the whole road didn’t stop me from arriving to my destination. I arrived well, safe and sound.

I was forced to focus on just what was in front of me . As I drove I thought to myself maybe that’s how we are supposed to live life just focus on what’s in front of you.

Instead of worrying what’s to come and what’s ahead it’s better to just focus on what is right in front of you. I didn’t have time to worry if there was a pothole or anything, I focused on just what was in front of me and I got to my destination safely.

Life is just like that we need to simply focus on what’s in front of us not worry what’s ahead. Life is so much better and happier that way.

I read a book called Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers. This book simply says zebras don’t live their lives worrying about whether a lion will pounce on them or not . They simply graze the grass and mind their own business. If a lion comes the zebra runs for dear life. If it escapes it goes back to grazing it’s grass in peace not even traumatized by what just happened.

Key message is: Be like the zebra focus on what’s in front of you. You don’t have to figure it all out. One minute at a time, one hour at a time one day at a time and everything will work out.

Matthew 6:25-34 The Message

25-26 “If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds.

27-29 “Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? All this time and money wasted on fashion—do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.

30-33 “If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

34 “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.

First of all I want to say that it’s great to meet you Nesu. Thank you for visiting and following my blog.

And secondly, I was so encouraged by this post. I loved The Message version of Matthew 6:25. It’s so loaded.
And I also loved the story of the Zebras and how chilled they are about life and not rattled about what might happen! That really spoke to me.

    Bless you
